Convert any volume unit
Pick any two units and convert between them: metric (millilitres and litres), US customary (fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons) and imperial. The menus group the units so the US and imperial versions are never confused.
Every unit is defined against the litre. The US gallon is exactly 231 cubic inches (3.785411784 L) and the imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 L.

US and imperial units share names but not sizes
The US pint has 16 fluid ounces and the imperial pint has 20. The US gallon is about 17% smaller than the imperial gallon. If a recipe, fuel figure or bottle size does not say which system it uses, ask before you convert.
Cups
This converter uses the US customary cup, which is 8 US fluid ounces. Metric recipes often use a 250 ml cup, and other countries use other sizes, so a "cup" is only exact when you know which one is meant.
Fluid ounces are not ounces of weight
A fluid ounce measures volume and an ounce measures mass. Water is close to 1 ounce per fluid ounce, but most ingredients are not.
