Convert any area unit
Pick any two units and convert between them: metric (square millimetres to square kilometres, and hectares), imperial (square inches to square miles) and acres. The result updates as you type.
Every unit is defined against the square metre. Imperial areas follow from the exact lengths of the inch, foot, yard and mile, and the acre is exactly 4,840 square yards, so the conversions are exact.

Acres and hectares
A hectare is 10,000 square metres, a square 100 m on a side. An acre is 4,840 square yards, or 43,560 square feet. Land is sold in hectares in most countries and in acres in the US, and often both in the UK.
Square feet and square metres
Property listings give floor area in square feet in the US and square metres in most other countries. Converting an area is not the same as converting a length: a square that is 1 m on a side has an area of about 10.76 square feet, not 3.28.
