Convert any temperature unit
Convert between degrees Celsius, degrees Fahrenheit and kelvins. The result updates as you type, and negative temperatures work.
These units are not simple multiples of each other: they start at different points, so a conversion needs an offset as well as a multiplication. The dedicated pages show the formulas for the most common pair.
Familiar temperatures
| Temperature | Degrees Celsius | Degrees Fahrenheit | Kelvins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Absolute zero | -273.15°C | -459.67°F | 0 K |
| Water freezes | 0°C | 32°F | 273.15 K |
| Room temperature | 20°C | 68°F | 293.15 K |
| Normal body temperature | 37°C | 98.6°F | 310.15 K |
| Water boils (at sea level) | 100°C | 212°F | 373.15 K |
Absolute zero
Nothing can be colder than absolute zero, which is 0 K, −273.15 °C or −459.67 °F. The converter rejects values below it rather than returning a meaningless number.
Readings and differences
A temperature reading and a temperature difference convert differently. A reading of 10 °C is 50 °F, but a rise of 10 °C is a rise of 18 °F. The offset applies only to readings.
Kelvin
The kelvin is the SI unit of temperature. It uses the same size of degree as Celsius, so a change of 1 K is a change of 1 °C, and it is written without a degree symbol.
